Dr. Londie Martin
Assistant Professor Document Design RHET 4305 / 5305 Fully Online Course Fall 2017 Regular Session Department of Rhetoric & Writing University of Arkansas at Little Rock |
Through critical readings and hands-on practice, learn how to recognize good design at work in the world and develop best practices for designing your own effective, audience-centered documents, whether for personal or professional use. From printed page to digital screen, we will examine the rhetorical force and function of the elements of design—color, typography, layout, pictorial representation, data display, and more.
We will also attend to the ethics of document design: How can designers learn about their audience’s values and goals in order to better meet those needs? How can we use effective design to craft meaning, aid memory, and ethically shape audience thoughts and feelings about the information we present? Design is about relationship—the relationships among elements on the page or screen and the relationships between authors and readers. Let’s explore those design relationships together this fall. |
