This course requires us to share ideas, explore rough drafts, and offer constructive feedback to our classmates. Our goals? To improve our "designer's eye" and better understand—and implement—best practices in creative and effective document design.
To accomplish these goals, we need to know a bit about each other. This class is more fun and more helpful when we can build a community—a support network of individuals who know the value of teamwork, brainstorming, and encouragement!
So, let's get to know each other!
Jump over to the #week01discussion channel on our Slack site, create a new post, and write about yourself. You can use the questions below to get you started:
Name? Nickname or preferred name? How to pronounce your name?
Gender pronouns?
Hometown?
Jobs you've held? Career ambitions?
Why you're taking college courses?
Why you're taking this course in particular?
Your major? Why?
You can also kick the excitement up a notch with questions like these. Pick two or three!
If you were on a deserted island and you could only bring one book, what would you bring and why?
If you were on a deserted island and you could only bring one music album, what would you bring and why?
Bird, fish, dinosaur, or unicorn: which you would you be and why?
If you could have just one super power, what would it be and why?
If you could invite three famous people to dinner (living or deceased), who would you invite... and why? (Ok, just always know that the "why?" is implied.)
When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?
For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
What do you value most in a friendship?
What would you do on a perfect day?
A favorite quote you remember? Or "words of wisdom" that you live by?
You can also add hyperlinks to your post by copying / pasting URLs (i.e., website addresses) to your post. You can link to YouTube, to images on the web, memes, Twitter posts, etc. Just remember our guidelines for posting content!
Once you're satisfied with the content of your post, click the "Share" button—and make sure you've selected the correct discussion channel. If you want, you can go back and edit it at any time.
Finally, it would be super cool if you could post a pic of yourself. This will help us attach faces to names. If you're not sure how to do this, watch the Your First Slack Discussion Post video.
